I have a confession to make. I am a little bit in love with David Mitchell. All right that’s an understatement. I am completely head over heals obsessed with him. My obsession started in 2004, by which time I had become a huge fan of the incredible sitcom Peep Show, in which he co-stars with Robert Webb. Despite the fact that David Mitchell’s character was and is neurotic, annoying, and pedantic, I felt strangely attracted to him. Going to see him in the film Magicians only cemented my adoration, particularly as I watched it at a bit of a romantic low in my life! So it was with some surprise and considerable relief that I read in a woman’s magazine a few years ago that plenty of women had a so called “weird crush” on David Mitchell. The thing is, I don’t think it is “weird” to be a huge fan and rather obsessed with him. After all (as his performances on numerous panel shows have proved) he is incredibly intelligent, very funny, and sweetly self deprecating. In addition to that he has a vulnerability about him that makes you want to give him a hug and make sure he’s ok and then let him wine and dine you and make you laugh for hours and hours. I listened to him on Desert Island Discs (which as you can imagine was the highlight of my week!) and Kirsty Young asked him what his type of woman was, to which he replied something along the lines of “I don’t really have a type, it’s more a case by case basis”. All right so it’s not the most romantic of answers, but it made me laugh and also the brilliant thing is it’s quite a diplomatic thing to say because it doesn’t rule any one type of person out. Hurrah, everyone’s welcome, so I’m in with a chance! Exciting news, the three valleys ski bookings for our annual trip have been confirmed. I need part of the overall cost by next monday.
